Uganda, the Pearl of Africa: gorillas in the mist and chimpanzees

A trip unlike any classic safari: 10 safari days across Uganda following Africa's great primates. You will head into Kibale Forest for chimpanzee tracking and into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for mountain gorilla tracking in the mist, one of the most thrilling wildlife experiences on Earth. Along the way: rhinos on foot at Ziwa, Murchison Falls, the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth, Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mburo.

Duration: 12 days door-to-door — 10 safari days in Uganda + 2 travel days (return flights from Spain).

Day 1 — Flight from Spain to Entebbe

Departure from Spain on an international flight to Entebbe International Airport (Uganda), with a layover.

Day 2 — Arrival in Entebbe

Welcome to Uganda. Airport pickup and transfer to your hotel on the shores of Lake Victoria to rest after the journey.

Day 3 — Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Drive north with a stop at Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch, the only place in Uganda where rhinos roam free, tracked on foot alongside the rangers. Continue to the Murchison Falls area.

Day 4 — Murchison Falls National Park

Uganda's largest park: the Nile squeezes through a gorge barely 7 metres wide and plunges with spectacular force. Borassus palm savannah with Rothschild's giraffes, elephants, buffalo, lions and hippos.

Day 5 — Kibale National Park: chimpanzees

Kibale is the primate capital of the world, with the highest density of chimpanzees in East Africa. This is where you go chimpanzee tracking through the rainforest, following their calls through the trees.

Day 6 — Queen Elizabeth National Park

Arrival at Queen Elizabeth, at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains: savannah, crater lakes and the famous Kazinga Channel, home to one of Africa's largest concentrations of hippos, plus elephants and water birds.

Day 7 — Queen Elizabeth

A second day in Queen Elizabeth, home of the famous tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector, as well as elephants, buffalo, Uganda kob and leopards.

Day 8 — Bwindi Impenetrable Forest: gorillas in the mist

The highlight of the trip. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to almost half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Gorilla tracking takes you through mist and dense vegetation to a habituated family for an encounter you will never forget.

Day 9 — Lake Bunyonyi

A restful stop at Lake Bunyonyi, dotted with 29 islands and surrounded by terraced hills: one of Uganda's most beautiful landscapes.

Day 10 — Lake Mburo National Park

The last park of the trip: Lake Mburo, with zebras, impalas, elands, buffalo and giraffes in a landscape of rolling hills, acacias and lakes.

Day 11 — Return to Entebbe

Drive back to Entebbe and transfer to the airport for your return flight to Spain.

Day 12 — Arrival in Spain
